Mahalo.com means "Thank You" for the cash!

For those in the know, ChaCha is a "people-powered" search engine where InfoSeekers can search the internet and receive pages of links that you have to sift four or five pages deep to get on the major search engines. If those results don't work for you, you can also search with a live Guide (like me) who will help you find the results you need. I have been a paid Guide for ChaCha for some time now and will readily admit that the company is struggling. It seems I spend more and more time waiting to receive a search than I used to. I ran across an awesome money making opportunity just a few days ago while I was reading the forum for ChaCha.com. The forum mods were slamming a site that was claiming to be the first people-powered search engine. Regardless of who came first, Mahalo.com is winning hands down in their ability to pay top dollars to their part-time guides.

As a Guide at Mahalo.com you would prepare SeRPs (Search Results Pages) on a huge variety of search topics then submit the pages for review. A Community Manager reviews your SeRP and answers back within 24 hours after you receive a confirmation email. If your SeRP gets approved you earn $10-15. To become a Guide you only need to input a few pieces of personal information. Don't worry about those lengthy applications some sites have with questions like, "Tell us why you want to make money writing for us." After you register as a new Guide you prepare and submit one SeRP. It's actually quite easy but do take the time to read everything first and make definate use of the templates available. When your first SeRP is approved you can then work on a total of up to five SeRPs at a time. It didn't take me too long to complete the SeRP after I understood the markup language. There is even a spiffy FireFox addon to make things easier for you. Payment via PayPal seals the deal on Mahalo.com -- not sure if it's the first, but it is definately the BEST people-powered search engine. Check ya there!

One stop shop?

So you have been thinking of setting up an online store and have realized there are probably a few different types of services you need to get the store up and running. What's more is that each service you need is offered by only a million different companies on the internet. How do you get the shopping cart that you need, the web hosting service, the credit card merchant account, and the perks you want all in one place? The answer has now been made simple with the all-in-one-website that gets the professional looking store you want without having to go through multiple companies.

The ecommerce software features offered by AShop seem endless. Here are a few that I found on the website that caught my eye!

World class easy set up
No plug-ins or programming required
Complete
operational storefront
Web based store administration
Free tech support
(phone, email, online chat)
No graphic design skills required
No HTML
knowledge required
Custom HTML section with Rich Text Editor
Free ecommerce software user manual, tutorial movies and knowledgebase

When you use AShop Commerce as your one-stop-shop for setting up your ecommerce business, you won't be disappointed as far as I can tell. I have priced all of these services at great length, always trying to find the best deals. Trust me, you sacrifice service for those $2 webhosting companies and free shopping carts. AShop includes webhosting, secure https/SSL, domain registration, and so much more. They offer several different packages to choose from depending on how many products you want to feature on your site. If you are a newbie and need great service with wonderful support, this looks like the way to go!

Viral Alexa VooDoo

How do you do that Viral VooDoo that you do? I was surfing today for various things and got side tracked at Agloco Masses. I found this genius piece of magic below that helps to increase your Alexa score !(that all important rating that helps increase your ranking on search engines which drives traffic to your site or blog). A quote of a guy named Carl on the site I mentioned above...

"The idea is to make a list of bloggers with an Alexa redirect link to their
blog. We all know that if you go to a site through an Alexa redirect, the visit
is recorded by Alexa and it adds to your rankings! Cool"

So, here goes. Try it out and let's see what we can do for our Alexa scores!

~~Start copying here~~

Alexa Redirect Train by Carl Ocab

1. Write a short introductory paragraph about what and how you found this Alexa Train, and the benefits that would accrue to any blogger that participates in it.

2. Start copying from the “~Start Copying Here~” above, and all the things listed without removing the links (Of course, the train would be no use without those links)

3. COPY the Rules and ENTIRE List below and post it to your blog. Please, don’t change the links of the blog

4. Move all the sites labeled “Newcomers” to the list labeled “Oldies”
Add as many sites that you want to include in the train and make their link like this: http://redirect.alexa.com/redirect?www.example.com then invite them to join the train.

5. Visit all the listed sites! (That’s not much work! Remember, if you plant good seeds they will also grow good) and look at your high Alexa ranking next week!

Creating a free website!

I have found a few places recently that allow you to do somethings that I have spent months researching online! First, let me tell you that I am very cautious about those "free" sites that offer you the opportunity to have a free website or other kind of online connections. Mostly they are just pure advertisement money makers for the companies that offer them. Now that being said, it would be crazy for a site to not take the opportunity to make some sort of money off of a site that you place on their server if that company lets you place your site for free. So you can guess that the sites that I am going to give you do place some sort of advertisement or tagline stating that they are powered by said company on the page or pages that they offer you. However, as I mentioned before, I have spent tons of time searching for these places and have run across a few lately that I have to recommend to the new webbie.

Mainly I recommend these sites for several reasons.

  • First, the sites offering these make little or no money for your pages and some even let you make a nickle or two (and no, these are not affiliate sites so I am not making any money by recommending them... I truly admire these companies and what they have to offer).
  • Second, if you are like me and have spent way to much time trying to learn programming languages just to get something other than your basic mySpace page, then these sites are not for you. They offer really simple web design portals that turn out great pages with minimum effort and virtually no programming effort (although the savvy user will be able to turn a page or two into a money maker... just be sure to understand the TOS for each site).
  • Lastly, these sites are among the most recommended web 2.0 sites and are mostly new players to the field. And you will see, if you choose to visit one or more of them, that they will be around for quite a while.

So, enough waiting... now the sites!

Weebly.com lets users design homepages for themselves and has fantastic templates to get you started. Choose from over 20 professional designs to get you started then just drag and drop the elements you want on your page! Weebly.com lets users place AdBrite ads on their pages with ease or advanced users can always choose to use their AdSense ads with the custom HTML element.

Spruz.com is still in beta but is another great choice for the new web page designer! A step-by-step tutorial will guide users through designing their own page or (better yet) their own online social network. Just glancing at the choice of templates it looks as though there are over 100 designs to choose from and all are able to be customized once you have chosen one!

Shopify.com is by far one of my favorite finds! It lets anyone, and I mean anyone, set up shop and sell their own goods with several awesome storefronts to choose from. Each is customizeable of course or those who choose to program their own can take advantage of a nifty program on the site that lets you design your own store front (a bit of programming knowledge is neccessary). You will need to sign up with PayPal or Google Checkout in order to process your credit cards or you can use several other available methods. They only charge a low 3% of total sales up to $10,000 per month which can be much cheaper than buying your own site!

If you like these sites, keep in mind that most of them will allow you to use your own domain name. So, if you already have www.myshop.com, you can tell Shopify.com to forward all browser requests for www.myshop.com to your Shopify.com store. If they don't offer domain forwarding, keep in mind that your domain registrar probably does so you can still accomplish the same effect! If you use one of these sites, why not leave a comment or two for the other readers and let them know what kind of experience you have had with them. And as always... links to your site are always welcome! Thanks and happy designing guys!
